Whiskey the Whippet was named Best in Show in the 17th annual National Dog Show Presented by Purina on Thanksgiving Day. The hound dethroned the previous winner, Newton the Brussels Griffon.

Speaking with NBC after winning the title, Whiskey's handler Justin Smithey said, "I think [he's] an outstanding example of what the ideal whippet would look like," he said. "This is our companion, our pet. He was born by my bed."

Whiskey the Whippet won the Hound Group before going on to beat the Doberman Pinscher for the highest prize.

The National Dog Show, which has been taking place since 1933, is one of the oldest benched dog shows in the United States.
