Mystery surrounds family massacre at New Jersey mansion set aflame

How did a family of four end up dead at their New Jersey mansion?

Businessman Keith Caneiro, 50, was found shot dead outside while the severely burned bodies of his wife, Jennifer Caneiro, 45, and their two children were found inside their $1.5 million Colts Neck home Tuesday, police said. The wife and children, whom authorities have tentatively identified as 11-year-old Jesse Caneiro and 8-year-old Sophia Caneiro, were reportedly stabbed, but it's not clear whether they died in the fire or from the apparent wounds.

Adding to the mystery, Keith's 51-year-old brother, Paul Caneiro, was charged Wednesday with aggravated arson for allegedly setting his own home, just miles away from his brother's, on fire with his wife and two daughters inside. No one was injured in that fire.

Prosecutors allege Paul set his home alight early Tuesday "by using gasoline," according to a criminal complaint. He reportedly told firefighters the flames were triggered by a gas leak. Neighbors said Paul appeared distraught as he watched the house burn.
