Watergate lawyer John Dean says Nixon would tell Trump ‘he’s going too far’

“If I had to channel a little of Richard Nixon, I think he’d tell this president he’s going too far.”

That is John Dean on CNN, one of the central figures in former President Richard Nixon’s Watergate scandal, saying that Trump is going too far.

Trump is trying to order the Justice Department to prosecute former FBI director James Comey and his old presidential opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Dean went on to say, “This is a level that Richard Nixon never went to where you went after somebody’s personal well-being by a criminal prosecution.”

For his part, Dean has become a critic of Trump’s, even going as far as to call him “evil.”

The Hill reports that Trump had apparently spoke with White House Counsel at the time, Don McGahn, about prosecuting Clinton and Comey in the spring.

McGahn and White House lawyers wrote up a memo telling the President that asking for their prosecution could lead to his impeachment or other issues.
