Patrick Mahomes skips postgame after girlfriend says her stepfather collapsed at Arrowhead Stadium, died

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was not available to speak with the media after Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals.

The initial news was that Mahomes had to deal with a family emergency after the game.

Mahomes’ girlfriend announces news on Instagram

Mahomes’ girlfriend Brittany Matthews shed some light on the situation in a postgame Instagram post, explaining that her stepfather had died after collapsing outside of Arrowhead Stadium before the game.

“Today is a day I will never forget!” Matthews wrote. “Directly after this picture I sprinted to the front entrance to see my step dad passed out! He did not come back from this and he was called to heaven today!”

Local news confirms paramedics were on the scene

Kansas City’s KCTV confirmed that paramedics arrived on the scene to attend to Matthews’ stepfather, who was at the game with Mahomes’ father.

Neither Mahomes nor the Chiefs have spoken publicly about the situation. Matthews’ Instagram page includes several pictures of herself with Mahomes, and Mahomes liked her Instagram post Sunday.

East Texas Matters reports that Lynn was a soccer standout at the University of Texas-Tyler and that her stepfather’s name was Paul Massey.
