Report: State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert offered UN ambassador post

State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert has reportedly been asked to replace Nikki Haley as the US Ambassador to the United Nations.

Fox News announced on Thursday, based on information from a “senior administration official,” that President Trump has extended the offer.

Nauert, who was a Fox News host prior to joining the State Department, is said to lack experience with foreign relations but is held in high regard by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

According to CNN, she was also among the people deemed likely to replace White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who is expected by some to vacate her post in the coming months.

Haley, whose resignation was announced last month, will leave her position by the end of the year.
