Eagles acquire WR Golden Tate from Lions

The Philadelphia Eagles are adding to their receiving corps: the team announced it is trading for Golden Tate.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted the Detroit Lions agreed to the deal in exchange for a third-round pick from the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Tate says goodbye

The 60th overall pick in 2010, Tate was in his fifth season with the Lions. He was a consistent performer for the team, averaging over 90 catches per year in his first four seasons, and topped 1,000 yards in three of the four. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl in 2014, his first season with Detroit.

He quickly tweeted a message to Lions fans, presumably after he got word that he’d been traded:

Just a couple of hours earlier, he tweeted the now-infamous gif from “Key and Peele” of Peele profusely sweating, indicating Tate was anxious to find out what might happen for him:

Carson Wentz, offense get a new addition

The Eagles’ passing offense has largely been a two-man deal over the first eight games: tight end Zach Ertz has 61 catches, while Nelson Agholor has 41. Alshon Jeffrey, who did not play the first three games, has 29 receptions.

Tate is in the final year of a five-year, $31 million contract he signed with Detroit in 2014.
