Mega Millions jackpot soars to $868 million

No one won the $667 million Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday night, but someone might just have an awesome weekend.

The prize will climb to a whopping $868 for the next drawing on Friday, which would be the second-largest lottery grab in U.S. history.

No tickets matched all six numbers — 3, 45, 49, 61, 69 and Mega Ball 9 — in Tuesday's drawing.

There were still plenty of winners, according to officials. Nine tickets matched the five white balls, and 100 tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball.

The jackpot has been growing since 11 California co-workers shared a $543 million prize earlier this year, the largest jackpot won on a single ticket in the Mega Millions game.

The record lottery jackpot was a $1.6 billion Powerball prize in 2016. The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday night with an estimated $345 million jackpot.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
