Lawsuit alleges Antonio Brown threw furniture from 14th floor, nearly hit toddler
A civil lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade County, Florida, charges that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown threw several objects from a high condominium balcony, very nearly hitting a man and his 22-month-old grandson. The suit, Ophir Sternberg et. al. v. Antonio Brown, first reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, seeks $15,000 in damages for emotional distress.
Lawsuit’s allegations about Brown’s conduct
According to the suit, Sternberg and his grandson were walking near the pool at The Mansions at Acqualina in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, when objects began falling from a balcony high above. “The falling objects included two very large vases, estimated to be over three feet each, as well as a large, heavy ottoman and other pieces of furniture,” according to the suit.
Sternberg charged that the objects fell within a foot or two of himself and his grandson, and could have caused severe injury or death. Security personnel determined that the objects were thrown by Brown from the 14th floor, and security video apparently exists; the lawsuit does not indicate whether Brown appears on the video.
The lawsuit notes that Sunny Isles police arrived on the scene to find Brown “extremely agitated, acting aggressively, and yelling at security personnel.”
“Mr. Brown’s conduct was outrageous, goes beyond the bounds of decency, and is regarded as odious and utterly intolerable in civilized community,” the lawsuit adds.
Second lawsuit filed over incident
The Post-Gazette noted that neither Brown’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, nor the Steelers had a comment on the lawsuit. KDKA-TV reported that a second lawsuit has been filed over the incident by the unit’s landlord, charging that Brown damaged the unit and has not paid for damages.
Brown has until Thursday to respond to Sternberg’s lawsuit after filing for an extension in September.
