Airplane passenger arrested after emerging from restroom wet and shirtless
Passengers were nearly prepared for takeoff on an Alaska Airlines flight headed from Honolulu to San Francisco on Sept. 26. But then a 28-year-old man who locked himself inside the aircraft’s restroom initiated a two-hour delay.
Thang Sang was on Alaska Airlines flight 710 where he went into the bathroom just before takeoff, then he reportedly refused to exit. Attendants decided to call for sheriffs, who ultimately got Sang to leave the restroom.
But passengers were jarred when he walked out of the lavatory soaking wet.
Lindsey Babb was among them and proceeded to shoot video of the 20-minute disturbance.
“This man is kicking, he’s shouting, the police have weapons on them. They were scuffling in between three feet of aisle and multiple different seats of people and children,” Babb told local Hawaii television KITV, noting how upsetting the event was for herself and for her daughters, 9 and 11. “Initially, when we saw a man exiting from the restroom appearing to be soaking wet … I tried to be silly with my girls.”
Babb jokingly suggested to her children that the man might have taken a bath in the sink but later admitted that she was just as confused as they were. Now, looking back at it, she thinks that the airline should have removed passengers from the flight before officers came on board.
Alaska Airlines provided the outlet with this statement in response to the incident: “The safety of our guests and crew is our top priority. … We sincerely apologize to our guests for the inconvenience.”
Sang was eventually dragged off of the aircraft, and the flight took off a total of two hours behind schedule. Now the man in question is being charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
