Earlier this week, new Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid didn’t give any details when asked if he’d continue to protest and what that protest would look like.

On Sunday, he gave his answer.

Reid kneels before Panthers face Giants

As the national anthem began playing before the Panthers’ game against the New York Giants, Reid dropped to his right knee, continuing the silent protest he began while a member of the San Francisco 49ers with Colin Kaepernick.

Reid was the first player to join Kaepernick in 2016.

The Panthers did not ask Reid about any potential protest before signing him, bringing him onto the team for football reasons.

New Carolina owner David Tepper said last month that it’s “dead wrong” to say players who protest during the anthem are unpatriotic.

“These are great young men,” Tepper said on CNBC. “So to say that [they aren’t patriotic] makes me so aggravated and angry. It’s just wrong, it’s dead wrong.”

Reid and Kaepernick have said numerous times they are protesting police brutality and issues of racial inequality.

Reid starts one week after signing

The Panthers signed Reid just a week ago, but he quickly established himself on the field and in the locker room.

Reid, who played 13 games with 12 starts for the 49ers last year, started for Carolina on Sunday. The Panthers beat the Giants 33-31 on a 63-yard field goal by Graham Gano with a second left.
