Photos of the week: 9/28 - 10/5

Updated

President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh moved closer to confirmation this week. The Senate Judiciary Committee received the FBI report on sexual misconduct allegations against the judge. Republican Sen. Susan Collins and Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin announced they would vote to confirm Kavanaugh, virtually ensuring his confirmation. Sen. Lisa Murkowski was on track to be the only Republican senator to oppose him. Kavanaugh himself wrote an op-ed this week defending his "emotional" congressional testimony.

Other major headlines of the week included first lady Melania Trump traveling to Africa on her first big solo international trip, a 7.5 magnitude quake and tsunami hitting Indonesia and Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke being convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Laquan McDonald.
