Tiger Woods gave a brutal assessment of his own performance after the USA’s massive Ryder Cup loss to a merciless Europe
Tiger Woods accepts he is partly to blame for the United States losing the Ryder Cup to Europe.
Europe trounced the US by a wide margin, winning the 2018 Ryder Cup trophy by 17.5 points to 10.5 points.
Woods alone lost four points to Europe.
He said it was "not a lot of fun."
Tiger Woods, golf's biggest superstar, surrendered four points out of four to a merciless Europe over the weekend and was powerless to prevent the Ryder Cup trophy from changing hands.
The United States team, the reigning Ryder Cup champions, were the pre-tournament favourite for a reason — the team featured some of golf's biggest and best players, from Woods himself to current world number one golfer Dustin Johnson and the three-time major winner Jordan Spieth.
But in the end, name value mattered little as Europe confidently batted the US charge away, winning the Ryder Cup by a heavy margin of 17.5 points to 10.5 points.
Woods accepts he is partly to blame for the defeat. "I’m one of the contributing factors to why we lost the Ryder Cup, and it’s not a lot of fun," the veteran American said, according to The Guardian. "It’s disappointing because I went 0-4, and that’s four points to the European team."
Woods partnered with 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed for the morning fourballs session on Friday, but lost 3&1 to Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood — a European pairing that proved to be unbeatable throughout the weekend.

Woods, again with Reed, lost 4&3 to Molinari and Fleetwood in Saturday's morning fourballs match, and though he paired with Bryson DeChambeau for Saturday's afternoon foursomes, he again lost to Molinari and Fleetwood, this time by a 5&4 margin.
In the singles, Woods — who struggled to sink his medium-to-long range putts all week — was just as woeful, losing 2&1 to Jon Rahm on Sunday.
His performance came despite ending a five-year wait to win a PGA Tour title, the PGA Championship, the weekend before.
"It’s frustrating because I just didn’t perform at the level that I had been playing," Woods said. "I got behind early in the matches and never got back. We were all coming here on a high and excited about playing this week but we didn’t execute like we had planned and wanted to."
