Neil deGrasse Tyson supports Trump's Space Force idea

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is defending President Trump’s Space Force plan.

According to TIME, the Trump administration outlined a plan to make a Space Force the sixth branch of the U.S. military back in August.

Critics argue that the United States doesn’t need a military presence in space but Tyson explained on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that America already has one, “It’s called the United States Space Command and it’s under the auspices of the air force! We already have a presence in Space!”

The Hill reports that the United States Space Command was founded in 1985 and allows the Air Force to launch satellites and engage in other defensive activities in space.

Tyson went on to say, “just because it came out of Trump’s mouth, doesn’t require that it then be a crazy thing!”

The goal is reportedly to make this Space Force a reality by 2020.
