Trump tweets in apparent response to Meghan McCain’s ‘America was always great’ remark

President Trump on Saturday took to Twitter and posted a brief all-caps tweet after Meghan McCain said during her father’s memorial service that “America was always great.”

“MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.

Meghan McCain seemed to make several veiled references blasting Trump while eulogizing Arizona Senator John McCain at Washington National Cathedral.

“We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness—the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who live lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served,” she said.

“My father was a great man,” Meghan McCain added. “He was a great warrior. He was a great American. I admired him for all of these things, but I love him because he was a great father.”

“The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great,” she also said.

Trump was noticeably absent from the memorial service which had several high-profile attendees including former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
