Missouri tourist identified as man who died after falling from cliff on Camelback Mountain

A man who was found dead on Camelback Mountain has been identified as a Missouri tourist.

Marc Daus, 54, went hiking alone while he was in town for his daughter’s soccer tournament, Phoenix Fire Captain Rob McDade announced Friday.

Daus left his hotel around 10 a.m. Thursday, but did not return that evening as expected, according to AZ Central.

Phoenix police spent about 30 areas searching the area before a media helicopter spotted what turned out to be a body.

“It looks like the individual made it to the top of the trail,” McDade said. “He did suffer a great fall of a large distance with a traumatic injury when our rescuers found him.”

McDade said there was no sign of foul play.

Daus’ family thanked the searchers in a statement relayed by Phoenix Fire Department.
