Arizona Sen. John McCain, the decorated Vietnam veteran and former Republican presidential nominee, died on Saturday. McCain's family had just announced that he was discontinuing medical treatment for an aggressive form of brain cancer. Emotional statements and touching tributes poured in, including from McCain's dear friend Sen. Lindsey Graham, who said, "America and Freedom have lost one of her greatest champions." McCain will be buried at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland. The war hero and maverick of the Senate was 81.

Other major headlines of the week included a deadly shooting at a Madden video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, President Trump tweeting that White House counsel Don McGahn will depart in the fall, and the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin's funeral.
