Eli Manning fires back after Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey rips Giants QB in GQ article
ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Jalen Ramsey, the talkative and talented Jaguars corner, dissed Eli Manning in a GQ story that landed Wednesday, saying “I won’t say Eli’s good.”
The Giants’ two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback had a quality comeback after practice: Manning claimed he has never heard of him.
“No (comment),” Manning said dismissively. “Who?”
Ramsey, 23, Jacksonville’s first-team All-Pro corner, insulted Manning’s ability in the tell-all interview in which he also took a shot at the Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger.
“Eli (Manning)… It’s not really Eli,” Ramsey said. “I think it’s Odell (Beckham Jr.). I won’t say Eli’s good. I’ll say Odell’s good. And their connection is good.”
Ramsey went even harder on Big Ben, saying: “He has a strong arm, but he ain’t all that. I played him twice last year, and he really disappointed me.”
But of course Manning and Roethlisberger each have won two Super Bowls, and Ramsey has only been in the league for two years, so the quarterbacks predictably won’t take too kindly to Ramsey’s rips.
Manning and Ramsey, obviously, will get a chance to settle things in Week 1 when the Jaguars come to MetLife Stadium for the season opener. In the meantime, we’ll all be wondering how Tom Coughlin, Manning’s coach for those Giants Super Bowls and now the Jaguars’ executive VP of football operations, will react to Ramsey’s latest controversial public comments.
Ramsey is in the middle of a week-long, team-imposed suspension for a profane rant directed toward the media who had filmed Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. in a post-practice altercation Sunday.
