Florida woman arrested after allegedly throwing her 4-year-old daughter off bridge, killing her

Tampa police recovered the body of a young girl, believed to be 4 years old, Thursday afternoon after a woman threw her into the Hillsborough River.

The woman, who police believe was the young girl’s mother, allegedly walked to the edge of the Columbus Drive Bridge and dropped her into the water below, Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan told the Tampa Bay Times.

Witnesses called the police and a dive team spent about half an hour in the water before finding the girl about 75 feet away from the shore.

She was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Police spokesman Steve Hegarty told the Times that police arrested the woman after she was found walking close to the scene.

Neither the woman nor child have been identified publicly.
