Woman found alive days after her car plunges off 200-foot cliff near Big Sur

A 23-year-old motorist missing for a week was found alive Friday night at the bottom of a cliff near Big Sur in California.

Angela Hernandez was located by a couple walking in the area, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office. They called 911 and she was transported by ambulance to a waiting helicopter and then a hospital.

Rescuers found her white Jeep Patriot over the cliff with Hernandez just below the car, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Investigators are unsure when her car went over the cliff, according to the Chronicle, but believe the vehicle was there for days.

She was found about 200 feet down, according to ABC News.

Hernandez, traveling from Oregon, had been reported missing on July 6 when she did not show up at a family member's home in California. She had told relatives in a text message that she was getting tired and decided to stop in Half Moon Bay. It would have taken her about six hours to get from Half Moon Bay to Lancaster, according to authorities.

Her last cellphone ping was from a cell tower near Davenport on July 6.

Hernandez suffered a shoulder injury and concussion but was able to walk and talk, officials told ABC News.

The couple who found her was camping at Kirk Creek Campground in Big Sur, according to the Tribune newspaper.
