Pussy Riot claims responsibility for World Cup pitch invasion

Russian punk rock band/protest group Pussy Riot is claiming responsibility after four people ran onto the pitch Sunday during the World Cup final between France and Croatia, causing a brief interruption of the match.

Just after Croatian keeper Danijel Subasic made a save on Kylian Mbappe in the 51st minute, four people ran onto the pitch dressed in what appeared to be police outfits, as Croatia was working the ball to midfield at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Security quickly gathered the invaders, though one made it to the center circle and another high-fived Mbappe. France was up 2-1 at the time.

Shortly afterward, Pussy Riot tweeted out responsibility for the stunt, calling it "Policeman enters the game" and noting the 11-year anniversary of the death of Russian poet Dmitri Prigov.

Pussy Riot has gained fame for its protests against Russian president Vladimir Putin, most notably in 2012 when two members were imprisoned for nearly two years, and public clashes with authorities during the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
