Djokovic beats Anderson in straight sets for fourth Wimbledon crown

After a pair of epic semifinals, the men's final went by in a relative flash on Sunday as Novak Djokovic held on to beat eighth-seeded Kevin Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (3) for his fourth Wimbledon title at the All England Club.

It's the Serb star's 13th Grand Slam title in 22 career finals.

Coming off a five-set semifinal win against top-ranked Rafael Nadal that lasted more than five hours and spilled into Saturday, the No. 12 seed Djokovic had plenty left in the tank against Anderson.

Anderson double-faulted on break point of his first service game and Djokovic took advantage by jumping out to a 5-1 lead.

Anderson received treatment for an apparent right arm injury after the set.

Djokovic also broke Anderson in his first service of the second set to maintain his momentum.

Anderson turned the tide in the third set, going toe-to-toe with Djokovic through 11 games. But he had to settle for a tiebreaker after failing to convert multiple break opportunities while up 6-5.

Djokovic then rediscovered his form in the tiebreaker, quickly jumping ahead 5-1 before sending a volley wide to give Anderson some hope. Anderson managed to make it 3-6 before firing a return in to the net to give Djokovic the title.

Anderson was coming off an even longer outing, the South African outlasting ninth-seeded American John Isner in a match that lasted six hours, 36 minutes and featured 50 games in the fifth set.

The length of their match is what forced Nadal-Djokovic to be suspended on Friday, that second semifinal starting too late to finish before curfew.

It's the second career Grand Slam final for Anderson, who was also runner-up to Nadal at the 2017 US Open.

Djokovic improves to 6-1 lifetime against Anderson with the victory.
