Argentina police seize cocaine hidden in fake World Cup trophies
With all of the excitement surrounding the 2018 World Cup, many are taking advantage, including the so-called “Narcos de la Copa” organization that trafficked marijuana and cocaine.
On Friday, in Argentina, police seized drugs from the organization. They were hidden in fake World Cup trophies, according to the security minister of Buenos Aires.
“These merchants of death have endless ingenuity, but don’t be fooled. They shouldn’t be admired. On the contrary … they are now in jail,” Argentina minister of security Cristian Ritondo said in a statement.
Four men and two women were arrested in the operation that used the hype around the soccer tournament as a means to transport its drugs.
Officials said Friday that 10 kilos of cocaine, 20 kilos of marijuana, 1,800 doses of crack-cocaine known as “paco,” and 400,000 Argentine pesos ($14,819) were seized.
