Former MLB pitcher Kevin Brown reportedly held mail thieves at gunpoint

Remember Kevin Brown, the no-nonsense right-handed pitcher who dominated baseball throughout the 90s and early 2000s?

Thirteen years after his retirement, it appears not much has changed after the former 19-year MLB veteran reportedly used that same no-nonsense approach and his previously untapped detective skills to stop a pair of alleged mail thieves.

According to the Miami Herald, Brown went full vigilante, even hiding in a neighbor’s yard waiting to see if the mail thieves would pay another visit to his Macon, Georgia neighborhood. When he spotted two unfamiliar individuals approaching a nearby mailbox early Wednesday, he reportedly sprang into action, chasing the alleged thieves down and holding them at gunpoint until police arrived.

The two individuals, a 15-year-old male and an adult male, were arrested at the scene, according to the Herald report. It wasn’t clear what charges, if any, either individual would face. Brown was also questioned by police but was reported cleared at the scene.

Worth noting, Georgia is one of more than two dozen states that have “Stand Your Ground” laws. It is likely Brown cited that law as his defense for drawing his weapon.

Brown, who pitched for the Rangers, Orioles, Marlins, Padres, Dodgers and Yankees during his nearly two-decade long career, was a 211-game winner and a six-time All-Star. In 1996, he finished second in the NL Cy Young award voting as a member of the then-Florida Marlins.

Brown’s on-field highlight was pitching a no-hitter for the Marlins against the San Francisco Giants on June 10, 1997. Nearly 21 years to the day, he found a most unexpected way to make headlines again.
