Conway: Obama 'was handed' Nobel Peace Prize, Trump 'is actually going to earn it'

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said on Wednesday that President Trump, unlike former President Obama, is going to “earn” his Nobel Peace Prize.

She said on Fox News show ‘Fox & Friends,’ “the last president was handed the Nobel Peace Prize. This president is actually going to earn it.”

Talk of Trump receiving the prestigious award has escalated in recent times due to his efforts to denuclearize North Korea.

He met with North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore on Tuesday, and, while no firm commitments were made, the two did sign an agreement to work toward resolving the nuclear weapons issue.

A group of Congressional Republicans recently submitted Trump’s name to the Nobel Committee for consideration, as did two members of Norway’s Progress Party, notes the Washington Examiner.

Obama received his Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

According to the Daily Mail, some questioned if he truly deserved it, saying he had been in office for less than one year and he had not yet reached a level of accomplishment worthy of the distinction.
