An eight-month-old girl was attacked and killed by her family dog, a pit bull between the ages of three and four, on Wednesday in Miramar, Florida.
Liana Valino was seated in a bouncy chair in a bedroom of her home under the watch of her grandmother when the animal mauled her to death, WPLG reported. First responders pronounced the infant dead at the scene.
Miramar police officers said that the pit bull in question was removed from the home by Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Division following the girl's death. Two other pit bulls were also taken from the house by animal control.
The baby's mother, Brenda Villasin, told WPLG that she drops Liana off at the child's grandmother's house every day before work and that she never imagined this could happen.
"She was the best thing to ever happen to me," Villasin told the outlet. "We smiled every morning. She was my world."
"Nobody wakes up in the morning and thinks they are going to lose the person they love."
