Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani calls Clapper, Brennan 'clowns'

Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani ripped veteran intelligence officials James Clapper and John Brennan as "clowns" on Sunday during a tirade on CNN's State of the Union.

The former New York City mayor continued to push for a briefing on classified information related to the Russia investigation after Trump claimed there was a government "spy" in the campaign.

During his chat with Dana Bash, Giuliani launched verbal assaults on Clapper, the former director of U.S. national intelligence, and the former CIA chief Brennan.

"I have no regard at all for Clapper and Brennan," Giuliani told Bash. "I think they are two clowns. Clapper is talking about spying which he doesn't realize spying on the Trump campaign. Brennan was chief torturer in charge and then disowned it. I don't know what he did with the CIA. He is the most political CIA director I have ever met."

"All those decades of service in the military?" Bash responded.

"There are a lot of people with decades of service, some good, some bad," Giuliani said. "Some get consumed with power and begin to lie. In the case of Brennan he is a political guy. He was Obama's chief defender. I'm not sure about Clapper."

Giuliani has said he wants information about the use of the government informant who approached members of Trump's campaign in a possible bid to get intelligence on Russian efforts to sway the election. President Trump has accused the FBI of misconduct and political bias and has denounced the informant as "a spy."

“I think the White House has every right to know and the President has every right to know as commander-in-chief,” Giuliani told CNN.

Trump again ripped the investigation in a series of tweets on Sunday morning, writing, "who’s going to give back the young and beautiful lives (and others) that have been devastated and destroyed by the phony Russia Collusion Witch Hunt? They journeyed down to Washington, D.C., with stars in their eyes and wanting to help our nation ... They went back home in tatters!"

The President also again took aim at his opponent in the election, tweeting, "why didn’t the 13 Angry Democrats investigate the campaign of Crooked Hillary Clinton, many crimes, much Collusion with Russia? Why didn’t the FBI take the Server from the DNC? Rigged Investigation!"
