‘Warm and productive’: Trump welcomes North Korea’s response to canceled summit

President Trump on Friday welcomed North Korea's response to his decision to cancel the June 12 summit with Kim Jong-un.

"Very good news to receive the warm and productive statement from North Korea. We will soon see where it will lead, hopefully to long and enduring prosperity and peace. Only time (and talent) will tell!" Trump wrote on Twitter.

Hours prior, North Korea stated Kim is still willing to meet despite the meeting cancellation.

"We would like to make known to the US side once again that we have the intent to sit with the US side to solve problem(s) regardless of ways at any time," said Kim Kye Gwan, a top official at North Korea's Foreign Ministry.

Trump announced on Thursday that he's calling off the summit, citing "open hostility."

"I was very much looking forward to being there with you," Trump said in a letter addressed to Kim. "Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting."
