British man shocked when 3-foot snake slithers out of cereal box

A man in the U.K. got quite a surprise over the weekend when a roughly 3-foot-long corn snake slithered out of his cereal box and into the dishwasher, reports the BBC.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was called to contain and remove the non-venomous serpent.

“I think [the man] was expecting to have Cornflakes for breakfast – not Cornsnakes!” Katie Hetherington, an officer with the animal organization, told ITV about the discovery. “The poor chap was absolutely terrified – I think it was the last thing he expected to find in his kitchen!”

According to the RSPCA, the snake is likely someone’s pet that got loose.

Fox News reports that the animal was “safely transported to a specialist, where it will remain until the RSPCA locates its owner.”
