Trump tweet sparks #WhatDoYouHerebyDemand hashtag

Updated

Just call him the demander-in-chief.

President Trump was at it again Sunday with an emphatically punctuated tweet that "demanded" a probe into the Department of Justice's involvement in his campaign.

"I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes - and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!" Trump tweeted Sunday afternoon.

But the message, as tweets from the president are wont to do, quickly spiraled into meme territory across social media by users who used the opportunity to craft very specific demands of their own.

"I hereby demand that you shut the f--k up and allow people, for once, to enjoy their Sunday," comedian Kathy Griffin tweeted.

"I hereby demand the creators of Sesame Street address the swirling rumors that The Count is polyamorous," Krang T. Nelson tweeted, along with a screenshot of the character's Wikipedia page, which explained that he's been shown on TV with "a number of girlfriends."

Others, like sportswriter and author Charles P. Pierce, kept their demands simple.

"I hereby demand pudding," he wrote.

TV writer Bess Kalb, meanwhile, just wanted some help with her wardrobe.

"I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated my closet, put my light grey J. Crew cashmere cardigan in the laundry, and ruined it for Political Purposes," she wrote.

Actor Billy Baldwin chimed in, too, noting that Trump's wording sounded awfully familiar.

"'I hereby demand'…Is he the Wizard of Oz… or the President of the United States? #ProtectMueller," Baldwin wrote.

Trump's forceful wording also had some questioning whether the president, who has denied accusations of sexual assault from at least a dozen women, used similar tactics on the ladies in his life.

"I wonder if Trump found that 'hereby demand' thing effective with the ladies," Los Angeles Times columnist and radio host David Lazarus wrote.
