The week was marred by tragedy after a gunman opened fire on students and teachers at Santa Fe High School in Texas. The suspected shooter Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, is accused of killing at least 10 people and injuring 10 others in the massacre on Friday. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Pagourtzis planned on committing suicide after the shooting but that he "didn't have the courage" to do it.
Other major headlines of the week included the Senate confirming Gina Haspel to be the first female CIA director, Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupting from its summit and a California couple being arrested after 10 kids were found living in "squalor."
