Hillary Clinton jokes she considered moving to New Zealand after Trump’s victory

Following the 2016 election, a number of those disappointed by the results said they were going to consider moving to another country.

For Hillary Clinton, the non-U.S. locale of choice was apparently New Zealand.

When speaking at a Monday event in Auckland, she revealed that she’d received invitations to move to the country, notes the New Zealand Herald.

“I must say I really did appreciate the offers. Gave them some thought,” Clinton joked.

“But I’m going to stay put because we have work to do in my country as well,” she continued.

While Clinton did note she’s retired from politics, she stressed, “I am very much in mode as an active citizen and when I see things that are going to be harmful to my country, harmful to my country’s leadership in the world, maybe harmful to my grandchildren, I’m going to keep speaking out.”

Clinton also took a moment to commend New Zealand for recently electing its third female prime minister.
