Reports: Pistons fire head coach Stan Van Gundy
After four years, Stan Van Gundy’s tenure with the Detroit Pistons is over.
As first reported by Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press and confirmed by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Pistons on Monday chose to “part ways” with Van Gundy, 58, one week shy of four years after hiring him to be their head coach and president of basketball operations. In those four years with Van Gundy at the helm, the Pistons compiled a record of 152-176, making a lone trip to the postseason — a brief stay in the spring of 2016, when they were swept out of the first round by the eventual NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers — before stumbling to sub-.500 finishes that kept them out of the Eastern Conference’s top eight in each of the last two years.
