First lady Melania Trump, in a high-profile address from the Rose Garden on Monday, announced the "Be Best" awareness initiative, the aim of which she said was to address some of the major issues facing children today.

The goal of the campaign, she said, is to encourage children to "be best" in their individual paths of life while teaching them the importance of social, emotional, and physical health.

"It remains our generation’s moral imperative to take responsibility and help our children manage the many issues they are facing today, including encouraging positive social, emotional, and physical habits," the first lady said. "By acknowledging there are many important issues, and knowing these problems cannot be solved overnight, I believe we can change the way we think and talk about issues facing children today."

The first lady's program will feature three pillars: well-being, social media use, and opioid abuse.

The initiative calls for parents, teachers, and adults to help promote values such as healthy living, kindness, encouragement, and kindness so that children are prepared to avoid both the opioid crisis and negative social media interactions.

The program will help highlight the importance of using social media in a positive way and support the families and children impacted by the opioid epidemic.

During the unveiling of "Be Best" on Monday, the first lady spoke about the children who have written to and met her during her time in the White House. Many of these children, as well as President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, were present for the announcement.

Cabinet members such as Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar are expected to help the first lady in the rollout of her platform.
