(Reuters) - Two Dallas police officers were shot and critically wounded on Tuesday at a Home Depot Inc store and a civilian was also shot in the incident, Dallas police said.

Police have launched a manhunt for a person of interest in the attempted murder of two police officers, who was named by the Dallas Police Department as Armando Juarez, 29. He is suspected of fleeing the scene in a white pickup truck, police said.

An off-duty officer working at the store called for help before the shooting, and officers responded,Dallas police said without offering many details.

"Once again, Dallas is at the precipice, looking into the hell of heartbreak as our police department was attacked this afternoon," Mayor Mike Rawlings told a news conference.

The city did not intend at this time to release the names of the officers or their medical status at the hospital because that would be inconsiderate to the families, the mayor said.

Five police officers in Dallas were killed by a sniper in 2016 in an attack that sent shockwaves through the city and nation.
