White House: President Trump won’t attend Barbara Bush's funeral

The White House issued a statement on Thursday announcing that President Trump will not be attending former first lady Barbara Bush’s funeral.

“First Lady Melania Trump will attend the memorial service for Barbara Bush this Saturday on behalf of the First Family. To avoid disruptions due to added security, and out of respect for the Bush Family and friends attending the service, President Trump will not attend,” the statement reads.

The service for Barbara Bush will be held at Houston’s St. Martin’s Church. The former first lady, 92, passed away on Tuesday with her husband of 73 years at her side, according to ABC News.

The legacy she leaves behind is significant.

In addition to being married to the 41st president, George H. W. Bush, she was the mother of George W. Bush, the nation’s 43rd leader.

Barbara Bush passed after a long battle with congestive heart failure and pulmonary disease, notes the New York Times.

On Sunday, her husband’s office said in a statement that she had “decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care.”
