Spurs announce that Gregg Popovich’s wife, Erin, has died

We have tragic news out of the NBA tonight. A prominent head coach’s wife has heartbreakingly passed away.

The San Antonio Spurs announced this evening that the wife of head coach Gregg Popovich, Erin, has passed away. The couple had been married for four decades.

Gregg and Erin Popovich had been married for 40-plus years. They had two children together and two grandchildren.

The Spurs released the following statement:

“With deep regret the San Antonio Spurs announce that Erin Popovich, wife of Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich, passed away earlier today. Erin and Gregg were married for four decades and were blessed with two children and two grandchildren,” the Spurs wrote.

Popovich’s wife, Erin, has stayed out of the public eye. However, she funnily told her husband to be nicer to the media a couple of years ago. Gregg is often very short during his interviews.

“It entertains everybody but my wife. When I get home and she says ‘geez why are you so mean? You’re a jerk, people hate you.’ I go I’m sorry honey, I have to do better next time,” he said back in 2012.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Popovich family. May Gregg’s wife, Erin, rest in peace.
