The week began with details emerging about a suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria over the weekend. At least 60 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured during the attack in the town of Douma. On Friday, President Donald Trump announced that he had ordered strikes targeting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's chemical weapons capabilities.

Other major headlines of the week included House Speaker Paul Ryan announcing he will not seek re-election in November, a military plane crash in Algeria that left more than 250 people dead and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testifying at a joint Senate hearing.
