Sister Jean was at Wrigley for the Cubs home opener and everyone loved her
After a snowy Monday that postponed the home opener, the Chicago Cubs finally got to start their season at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. And thankfully, Sister Jean and the Loyola men’s basketball team were able attend the rescheduled game.
[Still not too late to join a Yahoo Fantasy Baseball league]
Yes, that Sister Jean. The Cubs invited the 98-year-old nun, along with the Loyola men’s basketball team, to Wrigley Field for the home opener. The team’s incredible play — aided by Sister Jean’s inspirational presence, of course — gave them a magical Cinderella story and landed them in the Final Four. They weren’t able to make it to the finals, but the Cubs wanted to honor their achievement during the pregame festivities.
From the moment Sister Jean was wheeled onto the field, she was the center of attention.

Even Joe Maddon wanted a few seconds with her, presumably to discuss the best ways to inspire your team.

But that wasn’t all. She even got to throw out one of the ceremonial first pitches, and had an absolute ball doing it.

The loud cheer from the Wrigley crowd as Sister Jean threw the ball was pretty great. And that was an impressive toss for a 98-year-old! Not only did she manage to actually propel the ball away from her, it actually went several feet and rolled a decent distance. If any senior citizens’ baseball leagues in Chicago are looking for a pitcher, Sister Jean should be their first call.
