Texas councilwoman charged after yelling obscenities at girls over 'MAGA' shirt

A Texas councilwoman accused of shouting obscenities at a group of teen girls because of a Trump shirt was charged with disorderly conduct Wednesday.

West University Place Councilwoman Kellye Burke approached a group of girls waiting in line to buy cookies at a shop Saturday and started screaming at them, KPRC-TV reported. She reportedly shouted, “‘Grab ‘em by the p---y girls!’”

One of the girls was wearing a “Make American Great Again” shirt. A father of one of the teens told the station they tried to ignore Burke but she kept yelling at them.

“At that point the girls were getting kind of scared, and then the woman starts going, ‘MAGA! MAGA! MAGA!’ while shaking her fist,” the father told KPRC.

Burke apologized for her comments.

“We accepted her apology,” the father told the station. “I would be just as angry if any parent said this to my child but as an elected official I’ll let her voters handle this matter.”

West University Place Mayor Susan Sample said in a statement that she’s glad Burke took “responsibility for her own actions and has reached out to the affected families to apologize for her remarks.”

“My position as Mayor, however, does not afford me any official authority with respect to matters such as this,” Sample said. “Neither the city council nor the Mayor has any authority to remove fellow councilmembers.”
