Boy bullied for his two different colored eyes and cleft lip gets cat with exact same conditions

It was truly a match made in heaven.

Madden Humphreys, a 7-year-old boy from Oklahoma, was born with a bilitaral cleft lip and palate, both of which were fixed with surgery when he was an infant.

Although the procedure only left him with a small scar on his lip, Humphreys has another condition that sets him apart from other children – heterochromia iridum, which causes both of his eyes to be different colors.

Sadly, his unique features have made him a target for school bullies, according to his mother, Christina Humphreys.

"He is usually just completely full of life and happy and fun to be with," she told TODAY. "He wasn't (insecure) until other kids started pointing it out to him and then saying not nice things to him."

Humphreys said she wasn't sure how to comfort her son until one day, by a stroke of luck, she came across a Facebook ad for a rescue cat that just so happened to have the exact same features as Madden — two different colored eyes and a cleft lip.

When Humphreys saw the cat, named Moon, she was immediately determined to adopt him for her son, until she noticed that he lived in a Minnesota shelter, hundreds of miles away.

Unfortunately, the shelter said it would not let the family adopt the cat unless they visited first. Humphreys initially said she didn't think she could afford the gas and hotel money to make the 22-hour round trip drive possible.

Thankfully, with the help of friends and family who set up a fundraiser, the Humphreys were able to make the long trek from Oklahoma to Minnesota to finally unite Madden and Moon. The family brought the cat back home, and the rest is history.

"Madden has been beaming," Humphreys told TODAY. “I tell Madden all the time he is magical, and I think Moon helps him realize how special he is."
