Trump says 'DACA is dead' in Monday morning tweet

President Trump on Monday morning echoed his weekend remarks on immigration, declaring “DACA is dead.”

“DACA is dead because the Democrats didn’t care or act, and now everyone wants to get onto the DACA bandwagon…No longer works. Must build Wall and secure our borders with proper Border legislation. Democrats want No Borders, hence drugs and crime!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“Congress must immediately pass Border Legislation, use Nuclear Option if necessary, to stop the massive inflow of Drugs and People. Border Patrol Agents (and ICE) are GREAT, but the weak Dem laws don’t allow them to do their job. Act now Congress, our country is being stolen!” he wrote in another tweet.

These tweets follow his weekend posts, in which he stated in part, “Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE DACA DEAL!”

Trump announced in September that he would be ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and asked lawmakers to come up with a legislative solution for ‘Dreamers,’ undocumented immigrants brought into the U.S. as children.

However, the New York Times notes, “[Trump] has repeatedly backed away from potential deals that he argues do not include immigration changes that are tough enough.”
