Arrest warrant issued for released Raiders LB Aldon Smith on domestic violence charges

San Francisco police received an arrest warrant Monday night for former Oakland Raiders pass rusher Aldon Smith, whom the team released Monday following reports of a domestic violence incident.

Smith fled the scene on Saturday after a woman called the police claiming that Smith was beating her, according to police records.

Early on Monday, Smith’s fiancee confirmed with TMZ that she was the victim and that Smith had contacted her parents to get help checking into rehab. Smith has a history of alcohol abuse that has led to multiple suspensions from the NFL.

“I can tell you this … Aldon called my parents and asked them to take him to rehab,” she told TMZ. “He complied. They went and got him. I was not there. My family took him and had him checked in.

“I wish the best for Aldon. And I’m scared for his life with his addiction. I cannot comment on the altercation but I can tell you I love him and so happy he turned to my family who considers him family and hopefully he gets the help he truly needs.”

The Mercury News obtained emergency dispatch audio that the victim said that Smith had bitten her on the wrists and climbed out her window on the night of the alleged incident. Reports state that the victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

“The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and was identified as professional football player Aldon Smith, a 28-year-old Oakland resident,” police told the Mercury News.

Smith is facing charges of domestic violence, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism, according to the Mercury News.

The Raiders released Smith, who had been serving an indefinite suspension since 2015 for a second substance abuse policy violation, Monday afternoon.

Smith was named first-team All-Pro in 2012 with the San Francisco 49ers, but has seen his career run off the tracks with substance abuse troubles and multiple run-ins with the law.
