Scientists say Elon Musk's space Roadster may be a 'biothreat'

Scientists are worried that Elon Musk’s Roadster is a 'biothreat' and could one day contaminate Mars.

The car, which was launched on board the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket in February, is potentially carrying the most "earthly bacteria to ever enter space," according to Purdue University researchers.

The car's orbit crosses paths with Earth and Mars.

The fear is that if the car was to ever to burn up in Mars' atmosphere, traces of Earth’s bacteria could wipe out potential life on the red planet.

NASA has strict guidelines on sterilization of hardware heading to other planets, but not for ones only meant for orbit, like Musk's roadster.
