Aaron Hernandez letter shows he couldn’t ‘stay out of trouble'

Aaron Hernandez couldn’t promise he would stay out of trouble in prison, a letter he wrote to a pen pal shows.

“I’m not gonna promise I’ll stay out of trouble because in this facility you literally can’t make that promise no matter who you are,” he wrote to an unidentified female recipient.

“I’ll say this, I’ll do my best to stay out of trouble!” he wrote.

Hernandez was likely responding to the friend’s request that he stay out of trouble in the letter dated 1/25/16.

The letter is up for auction at Lelands with a starting bid of $300.

As of Thursday the highest bid was $330.

Hernandez thanks his friend for sending money, and talks about his prison routine.

“I’m glad to be back working out...I am big on my body lookin right, so feels good to be back eating right (no sweets) and getting back in shape,” he writes.

“Besides that just playin chess and calling my little princess!” he adds.

The former football pro also debates allowing his daughter to have a pet.

“And I would say ‘yes’ for a puppy/cat for Avi but my girl would kill that thing because that’s the last thing she needs right no [sic], an animal!” he wrote, referring to his daughter, Avielle Hernandez, and his girlfriend, Shayanna Jenkins.

Hernandez also thanks his pen pal for giving his daughter “Avi” a locket for Valentine’s day. “And whatever you wanna do for Shay is perfect!” he adds.

He also reminds his friend of Jenkins’ birthday and suggests flowers as a gift for her.

Hernandez writes that he is grateful for his friend’s support, and includes a request for a picture of himself with his German Shepard, calling it “one of my favorite pics of all time.”

A note on the letter's envelope indicates an "unknown substance."

Hernandez’s football career came to an end when he was arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd, who had been dating Jenkins’ sister .

He was convicted of first-degree murder in 2015 and committed suicide in April, 2017 while serving life in prison.
