Mets list Tim Tebow as day-to-day after freak accident

Tim Tebow is day-to-day after spraining his left ankle in a freak accident early last week, the New York Mets said Sunday.

Tebow, in camp as a non-roster player as he continues the transition from NFL quarterback to aspiring Major League Baseball prospect, is being limited to taking batting practice with the ankle taped. He hopes to resume full workouts in the coming days.

The former Heisman Trophy winner was injured when he caught his foot on a sprinkler head in the outfield at the Mets' complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Tebow, 30, said it happened Monday or Tuesday.

"I'm trying to be smart about it and keep (the ankle) taped," Tebow told reporters after Sunday's workout.

Tebow hit .226/.309/.347 in 126 Class A games with eight home runs and 126 strikeouts last season, his first full year in professional baseball.
