Secret Service gives all clear after suspicious vehicle reported near White House causes evacuations

The Secret Service shut down roads and evacuated a building near the White House Wednesday as they investigated a suspicious car.

The agency tweeted just before 8:30 a.m. that agents were responding to a vehicle near 17th St.

The New Executive Office Building was evacuated and several streets in the surrounding area were closed to traffic.

About 100 White House employees were being held in a park across the street from the building while agents investigated the car.

The all-clear was given around 9:20 a.m.

“Explosive Ordnance Detection personnel have cleared the suspicious vehicle,” the Secret Service tweeted. “Vehicle road closures have been lifted. Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Park remain closed to pedestrians.”
