USC freshman WR Lewis arrested on domestic abuse charge

Southern Cal wide receiver Joseph Lewis was arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse charges Monday afternoon and suspended from the team.

Lewis, who had four catches in 2017 as a freshman, was taken into custody on Monday afternoon with bail set at $50,000.

Lewis was scheduled Tuesday for a hearing on suspicion of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant charges.

"USC takes all reports of domestic abuse seriously and is cooperating fully with the law enforcement investigation," the school said in a statement. "While this student code of conduct issue is being investigated, the student has been suspended from all football-related activities. Student disciplinary records and student conduct proceedings are confidential at USC and protected by law."

He was a four-star recruit and ranked one of the top 10 wide receivers by the majority of recruiting services in the 2017 recruiting class.
