LaVar Ball incorrectly thinks his son Lonzo can just leave the Lakers in two years
LaVar Ball hasn’t been in the news for a while, so LaVar Ball said some incendiary stuff.
The blustering father of Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball laid out his master plan for all three of his sons to play on the same NBA team in 2020-21 to Lithuanian basketball reporter Donatas Urbonas.
Essentially, LaVar said if the Lakers don’t draft LiAngelo this year, the middle brother will stay in Lithuania to play alongside little bro LaMelo on Vytautas Prienai for two more seasons, at which point Lonzo will sign as a free agent with whichever team is willing to sign all three Balls.

This is a variation of LaVar’s guarantee that his three sons will deliver the Lakers’ next championship.
Of course, this plan is not plausible, since the Lakers own club options on Lonzo’s contract through the 2020-21 season and can match any deal he signs in restricted free agency three years from now.
Sure, Lonzo could threaten to sit out the season and submarine his career in an attempt to force a trade and play with his two brothers, neither of whom may be NBA prospects, but that seems unwise.
LaVar’s grand plan was then followed by another series of equally ridiculous statements, probably because Lonzo has not played since Jan. 13, the Lakers have won eight of their last 10 games in his absence, and newly acquired point guard Isaiah Thomas’ impressive debut is stealing headlines in L.A.
