Here's how to see this week's partial solar eclipse

Updated

A partial solar eclipse is set to take place this Thursday — but only those in a very limited geographic area will be able to see it.

The celestial event will be visible in certain parts of South America, including Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, southern Brazil and southern Paraguay, and Antarctica.

Time reports that Antarctica will experience the beginning of the partial eclipse around 9 a.m. local time. The end of the eclipse will be visible in South America between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time.

Though the eclipse isn't total, stargazers who wish to take it in will still need to wear special protective eyewear or risk sustaining serious retinal damage.
