GOP senators question Susan Rice about 'unusual' email on Russia probe

Former national security advisor Susan Rice is being questioned by two Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee over an ‘unusual’ message she sent herself.

The Hill reports Chairman Chuck Grassley and Senator Lindsey Graham questioned Rice over the note regarding a conversation she witnessed between former president Barack Obama and former FBI Director James Comey on the day of President Trump’s inauguration.

Obama apparently repeatedly told Comey during a meeting on Russia election hacking that he wanted every aspect done “by the book.”

Rice wrote "From a national security perspective, however, President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming [Trump] team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we cannot share information fully as it relates to Russia."

Former White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler is representing Rice and said “The Obama White House was justifiably concerned about how comprehensive they should be in their briefings regarding Russia to members of the Trump transition team…”

Democratic Judiciary Committee members, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Sheldon Whitehouse, were carbon copied on the letter sent to Rice by Grassley and Graham.
